Meet Standard AI

Standard AI is on a mission to change the way the world shops by using machine learning to improve the shopping experience. The company was founded on the goal of using autonomous checkout powered by only AI-powered cameras.

Gareth Stonebraker, Director of IT at Standard AI, leads their IT support desk and manages the company’s Jira instance. A key function of his role is to translate internal user needs into effective Jira configuration to empower Standard AI teams to do great work.

The challenge

Gareth recently led a six-month project to consolidate critical tools for his team to create more efficiency. The project consisted of unifying Standard AI’s deployment intake funnel, project management pipeline, and reporting tools into Jira from a hybrid tech stack of four separate applications.

The team needed a reliable app that was easy to use and would allow Gareth to extend Jira’s native capabilities and enhance the Jira usability and make the user experience better for the end user.

The solution

Enter Appfire’s Jira Misc Workflow Extensions (JMWE), which has been an invaluable app for Gareth and his team as they consolidated their tech stack. JMWE enables teams to go beyond native workflow automation with event-based automations, JQL-based scheduled actions, and simplified scripting.

The ability to create advanced workflow automations is exactly what Gareth was looking for. JMWE’s expression tester that allows for quick syntax checking and debugging became his go-to resource for writing, testing, and updating complex expressions for automation and filters. JMWE’s workflow extensions enabled Gareth to automate complex processes to supplement what’s supported by Jira's native automation . Especially with multi-step workflow automations, data validations, and governing how users interact with issues, JMWE is critical for Gareth and his team.

The use of JMWE resulted in a 15% reduction in hours spent on the tech stack consolidation. Without JMWE, some of Standard AI’s most complex processes in this project would have been challenging.
