Where is Appfire Town? Everywhere! In 2024, Appfire Town supported 1,135 organizations in 17 countries, with volunteers dedicating more than 4,455 hours to making a difference — building schools, supporting healthcare and education, creating care packages for those in need, and more.

Whether in their own hometowns or halfway around the world, Appfire employees came together with community organizers to give back in meaningful ways. Looking for a little inspiration (or just want to smile)? Take a minute to watch this video and see some of the incredible people Appfire Town had the privilege to serve in 2024.

Where was Appfire Town in 2024?

In 2024, we pitched in to empower communities, foster meaningful connections, and drive change worldwide. From the base of Mount Kilimanjaro to the striking shores of Atitlán, Appfire Town volunteers have made a difference by building, supporting, and collaborating to create a brighter future. As we approach 2025, let’s take a minute to reflect on some of the people and places that inspired us this year.

Transforming lives in Moshi, Tanzania

In April, we traveled to Moshi, Tanzania. Together with MOSKISA, we worked to improve the lives of street children through football training, academic guidance, and social support. Key achievements included:

  • The seeds of kindness child development center: Appfire Town contributed funds towards the purchase of land and funded construction for this facility, which now serves as a community hub for education and support.
  • The MOSKISA soccer field: Volunteers helped build the field to provide a safe and engaging space for children to play and grow.
  • Community empowerment: Efforts extended to mobile clinics, orphanages, and local schools, ensuring these vital institutions had the resources they needed.

These projects encapsulate the heart of Appfire’s mission: making work flow — and helping people thrive.

A return to Atitlán, Guatemala

In August, Appfire Town revisited Atitlán, Guatemala, to continue our work in education, healthcare, and community empowerment. From installing solar panels to power the region’s first-ever blood bank to building new classrooms, Appfire Town volunteers worked hard to make an impact. Their projects included:

  • Educational infrastructure: Appfire Town helped build two classrooms, painted 13 others, and added a mural to inspire young learners.
  • Access to basic needs: Volunteers provided two weeks’ worth of food to 148 families.

Emergency services support: Appfire Town helped train 20 volunteer firefighters and equipped them with brand-new work boots, strengthening the local fire department.

Giving back at Team ‘24: Las Vegas

At Atlassian’s annual Team ‘24 event in Las Vegas, Appfire Town volunteers and event attendees made 600 stuffed pandas to generate awareness about PANDAS — Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. This rare condition causes some children to develop obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), tic disorders, or both after a streptococcal infection like strep throat or scarlet fever.

Appfire Town volunteers then delivered the stuffed pandas to a local hospital, spreading comfort and joy to young patients. The event brought together Appfire employees, partners, and customers, all united by a shared commitment to raising awareness about PANDAS.

Global initiatives: Earth Day and beyond

In April, fireflies across the globe participated in Earth Day activities to contribute to environmental conservation. Highlights included:

  • Beach cleanup in Gdansk, Poland: Employees worked together to remove litter, promoting a cleaner coastline.
  • Sustainability conversations: Teams discussed ways to incorporate planting, composting, and recycling into their daily lives.
  • Ecological restoration: Appfire Town provided funds to Manos que Tejen Bosques (Hands that Weaves Forest) to acquire transportation for a team that planted more than 40,000 native trees in Córdoba, Argentina.

These efforts demonstrate how small, consistent actions can lead to significant environmental impact. As the old saying goes, a little in abundance is a lot!

Lifting people up through sports and education

In Magglingen, Switzerland, we partnered with PluSport to empower individuals with disabilities through sports. The day was filled with activities promoting physical well-being, community engagement, and inclusion.

Meanwhile, our collaboration with Saamarthya Foundation in Pune, India, supported the opening of a Family Resource Center for children with disabilities. Activities included painting, landscaping, and creating a welcoming space for families.

Festival of resilience and empathy in Atitlán

We hosted the third Resilience and Empathy Festival, bringing the event to Atitlán, Guatemala, for the first time to generate awareness about people with disabilities.

A year of offsites: building teams through service

This year’s team offsites were more than just meetings — they were opportunities to connect and contribute. From restoring marine ecosystems in Florida to cleaning and transforming social service centers in Sofia, Bulgaria, our teams bonded while helping the communities they visited.

Global compassion day

On December 3, Appfire Town volunteers worldwide participated in Global compassion day. This company-wide initiative invited all Appfire employees to dedicate their Volunteer Time Off (VTO) to acts of service.

Whether mentoring, supporting a local cause, or participating in global efforts, the company encouraged everyone to take part in spreading kindness and making a difference. And they stepped up with a staggering number of activities, from cleaning a zoo in Sofia, Bulgaria, to teaching disabled children to ski in Breckenridge, Colorado, Appfire Town observed Compassion Day in service of others.

Together, we create change

And that’s just a sampling of the places Appfire Town volunteers served this year. From Tanzania to Guatemala, from Breckenridge to Bulgaria, and beyond, Appfire Town’s initiatives prove the power of collaboration and compassion. These efforts are just the beginning of what we can achieve together.

As Tamara Lechner observed at Atitlán: “Empathy is about understanding someone’s pain, but compassion drives action.”

Let’s keep building, giving, and growing — together. See you in 2025!
