Appfire Town is proud to be part of an ongoing effort to support the local community in Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala. During our most recent trip to this region in 2024, our Appfire Town “Fireflies” worked with local partners to provide critical services and assistance to schools like David LaMote, Puertas Abiertas, and the Special Education program while offering aid to the local hospital and fire department.
As part of this initiative, we launched the first-ever Festival of Resilience and Empathy in Atitlán, celebrating the community's strength and compassion. Alongside the Appfire team, we were joined by two dentists, an OBGYN doctor, and a professional in music and yoga for kids to help make a real impact. Here’s a snapshot of what we accomplished:
- 31 dental consults
- 78 OBGYN consults
- $3,000 worth of donated medicine
- Solar panels installed at the hospital to power their first blood bank
- Educational services for:
- 300 students
- 130 elders
- 30 teachers
- 97 women
- 20 volunteer firefighters trained and equipped with new boots
- Two weeks’ worth of food provided to 148 families
- Two new classrooms were built
- 13 classrooms were painted, and a mural added
- Accessible ramp built for children’s classrooms
- Concrete patio constructed to replace a dirt play area
From empowering students to equipping local firefighters, this trip highlighted how our collective efforts can create a ripple effect of change that the community will feel for years to come. We're grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute and look forward to continuing our work in Atitlán.
